Hello BassBudders,

Have you seen the trailer for the new film with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney yet? Gravity will be released on October 4, 2013, and it’s already gives me the goose bumps!

What do you think?

Flying Horse Jeans In-Store Launch AW13

BassBuds | July 26, 2013

Our fashion know-it-all Nagiib went to the Flying Horse Jeans in-store launch for their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection last night, and we’re all jealous that he got gifted a pair of the amazing jeans…

Flying Horse Jeans Launch

You know that familiar feeling when you hold your favourite pair of jeans? Well, that’s how I feel about Flying Horse Jeans. I am a big fan of the denim goods; I probably have a total of 30 pairs between my places here in London and back home in Amsterdam. A good pair of jeans can make you feel instant happiness and shape your body for all to admire. The denim material of Flying Horse Jeans feels like the real deal, it is lose and the texture is of high quality; the kind of jeans you’ll have for a very long time.

Flying Horse Jeans store is situated in the heart of London at 8 Newburgh Street, around the corner from Carnaby Street, or what one would call: denim heaven. With a very down to earth atmosphere, authentic wood interior and little trinkets that inspire you to travel to exotic places, it very much feels like home away from home. The brand is inspired by travels around South East Asia, and there is something for every jeans connoisseur in the wide selection of indigo dyed jeans I saw last night.

I particularly liked the sky blue pair, which works perfectly for me, because it’s with a more clean sophisticated style and thankfully Flying Horse Jeans gave me a pair to update my look. Thank you Flying Horse Jeans…I’m totally wearing them today!

Monster vs Robot in PACIFIC RIM

Charlee wasn’t going to wait long before watching the newly released Pacific Rim… Don’t worry – no real spoilers!

pacific-rim6

Guillermo del Toro’s latest flick can easily be described as the grown up equivalent of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. When enormous monsters threaten to extinct the human race it is up to a team of warriors to fight back and save the world in Transformer-style robots.

The Pan’s Labyrinth director has added the much-needed excitement back to the robot/monster action genre that has been lacking recently. Set in the year 2025, Pacific Rim focuses on the fight between the Kaiju; alien monsters that emerge from beneath the ocean, and the Jaegers; enormous metal robots that are controlled by two drivers who are linked to one another’s mental process.

When the Kaiju start to become more powerful and stronger the world is forced to activate their Plan B, a giant wall surrounding the Pacific Rim which claims to be strong enough to block the Kaiju from breaking through. However when Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) is given one last chance to save the world by forming a final Jaeger team, he enlists the help of previous pilots led by hero Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam), Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), Herc Hansen, (Max Martini) and Chuck Hansen (Robert Kazinsky), to face the ultimate showdown in Hong Kong.

Cue monster on robot action scenes, with the Kaiju’s becoming stronger and the Jaegers decreasing in number it soon becomes a dance between the foes. A stand out scene for me in this movie is when one Jaeger emerges from the bay with an oil tanker and seamlessly beats his opponent with it as if it were a battering stick.

Visually stunning this film will reignite the passion for giant robots and the spectacle appeal will make sure you are getting your money’s worth.

Akamba – a taste of Africa in the heart of Solihull

Jas takes us on a trip to Africa…in the West Midlands…

It’s real: you’re surrounded by a unique ambiance you feel like you’re in Africa. Akamba is not only a garden Centre it’s an experience and definitely worth a visit. From the African live music, the heavenly cocktails, (Sundowner is definitely worth a try) divine foods and exotic gardens, what are you waiting for on a glorious summer afternoon?

Akamba_BassBudsBlog

The garden is built up of exotic plants and metal animals figurines. With rustic straw umbrellas and seating areas available throughout the garden the tranquil environment is definitely a go-to when unwinding, relaxing, catching up with friends or spending quality time with family.

The steel Zoo is comprised of figurines made from scrap buses and cars, which developed by African artists in Africa. The animals give a genuine life impression of a real animal but unlike in a normal zoo where you cannot get up close and personal, at Akamba you can touch, feel, and get close to the structures, whilst sampling some fine traditional cuisine, and soaking up the African environment in the heart of Solihull, West Midlands.

I have yet to experience some of the live performances that are staged at Akamba, but one thing is for sure: I definitely will be going back. Did you spot the animal wearing a pair of BassBuds?  Have you ever been anywhere like this in the UK, or experienced different vibes and cultures in your homeland? Tell me all about it by commenting below or send me an email on: blog@bassbuds.co.uk.

The A-Z of BassBuds

Manisha kicked off the A-Z of BassBuds with Amazing and the A-Z returns this week with a little secret… shhh…

B is for British!

letter_B

We’re proud to be British. Like Footballer and Dad David Beckham, singer and TV personality Cheryl Cole, Supermodel Kate Moss, Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney and music and TV entrepreneur Simon Cowell, we’re flying the British Flag across the globe. In fact, today is a very exciting day as the Duchess of Cambridge has checked into the Lindo Wing, where shortly the 43rd monarch since William the Conqueror and 3rd in line to the throne will be born!

As well as the Royal Family, we love our quintessential British things, cups of tea, roast dinners, curries, the countryside, and football, to name a few. However, we love learning about the world around us and getting involved with all things bright and beautiful.

Our head offices are based across the UK but our customers stretch all corners of the globe, from USA to India, Sweden to China and Malaysia to New Zealand… BassBuds have no limits!

That’s because we design our BassBuds to suit all styles, cultures and fashions and we ship all over the world. So why not celebrate the birth of the future King or Queen of Britain and the Commonwealth or treat your long-distance loved ones, friends and family by sending them a beautiful BassBuds gift?

Summer_Jam_banner

The heat wave taking over the UK is going to wind down as July comes to an end, but that doesn’t stop us having one last party in the sun! Manisha goes back in time to compile a list of her favourite summer jams…

This week, I’m going to take you back a few years to the old school groovy summer tunes. There are so many favourites that I’ve enjoyed over the years, I’ve been reminiscing summers when I was a young girl playing hopscotch out in the sun, to when I was a student “revising for exams” in the park, to the all-day, all-night parties… so many good times and so many good songs!

In all honesty, I compiled this list and I was immediately disgraced at my choices; the initial list included “We’re going to Ibiza” by Vengaboys, and now that I think about it… I probably shouldn’t have admitted that!!!

I rethought, relisted and still wasn’t satisfied so I delved into the era of my Sony mini-disk (was I the only person in the planet who had a MD?!) and I started to find a couple of right gems in amongst the embarrassing. I’m still not sure this is the best list, it’s an eclectic mix, I need to let it settle a little longer, think, ponder, evaluate. However, objections aside, here’s a (preliminary) top 10 for you to jam to this weekend (click to listen!):

1

Summertime – Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff (ahhhhhh yeahhhhh!)

2

Summer Jam  – The Underdog Project

3

Re-Rewind – Artful Dodger feat. Craig David

4

Sun Is Shining – Bob Marley and the Wailers

5

Are You Ready For Love – Elton John

6

Doo Wop (That Thing) – Lauryn Hill

7

Sweet Like Chocolate – Phats & Small

8

Mr Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra

9

Crazy in Love – Beyonce feat. Jay-Z

10

Lady (Her Me Tonight) – Modjo

What do you think? Have I missed out any must-haves? I’ve tuned out (most) of the cheese factor and tuned up the sunshine factor. I know I’ll be blasting these through my BassBoomz this weekend!
