Juggy Dee, Rishi Rich and Jay Sean

Juggy Dee, Rishi Rich and Jay Sean

The party of the week last week was at No5 Cavendish, to celebrate the reunion of three of the biggest music icons in the Brit-Asian music scene…

Jay Sean, Juggy D and Rishi Rich, who are respected by their peers and seen as idols for young artists desperate to break into the scene, gathered with 100’s of their family and friends to celebrate 10 years of the Rishi Rich Project.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of listening to the sounds that actually inspired big artists like Missy Elliot and Madonna to drop Asian beats in their tunes, then here’s a history lesson:

  • The Rishi Rich Project made massive noise back in the early noughties with the hit single ‘Dance With You’ (Tere Naal Nachna) which reached number 12 in the official UK charts
  • The track launched producer-genius Rishi Rich, making big stars like Britney, and Craig David fall in love with his unique sounds… and this was well before Naughty Boy hit the scenes!
  • Juggy D – now dubbed the ‘Punjabi Rockstar’ – literally took the bhangra world by storm, with everyone getting hyped up about him over the past few years.
  • And last but definitely not least… The Rishi Rich project helped Jay Sean make it big in the States, getting him into the Cash Money world, where for the past few years he’s been chilling with rappers like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Birdman

We were lucky enough to get exclusive access and watch the boys reunite for a completely unplanned performance of everyone’s fave track, and also managed to squeeze a bit of alone time with the boys and get the lowdown on the reunion:

Rishi said: “It’s been one hell of a ride and amazing being back with Jay and Juggy. We’re now working on some new tracks for the UK as well as some stuff for India and the US. Good vibes!”

Not to be outdone, Jay added: “It’s so brilliant being back in the studio with my brothers. We knew we had to celebrate RRP style and throw a party to mark the 10 years since we first entered the national charts.  It was a perfect evening spent with family, friends and some industry people too”.

Juggy summed up the event: “Fantastic evening! We’ve all had an amazing ten years both together and individually, it was inevitable that we were gonna get back together and what better way to announce our reunion than on our 10 year anniversary.”

It was an awesome night, and to be fair we didn’t think it could get any better… but we were wrong! Cash Money star Jay took the opportunity to make an announcement of his own… and who knew (although, if we’re honest… a little birdy had kind of mentioned it before…) that not only has Jay been married to a stunningly beautiful woman called Thara for the past two years, but that he’s going to be a daddy in December… what a perfect Xmas present!

London Fashion Week SS14

Friday 13th can be unlucky for some, but not those at Fashion week, when it kicked off in spectacular style with Bora Aksu. We think the designer did a good job at incorporating his Turkish roots into the design of his collection, with bright and patterned materials.

Topshop was one fashion brand that stood out this fashion week – not just because their ‘frow’ consisted of Anna Wintour, Kate Moss, Ellie Goulding and many more – but because their collection was beautifully crafted using silks and suede materials, whilst maintaining a girly and feminine feel, and – of course – having Cara and Jordan model the clothes may have helped on the fashion stakes too!

We were excited to see Yulia Kondranina’s collection, which also won the prestigious Fashion Scout Merit award. The collection started with clean white clothes then gradually moved onto blacks, navys, burgundys and greys with Aztec prints, the majority of the line welcomed crocheted dresses with peek-a-boo cuts and sheer panels with weaving and braiding – all very exciting for spring/summer next year.

Turkish designer Gul Agis and his SS14 line Lug Von Siga, had a tribal feel to it, with lots of monochrome and embellishment.  The clothes were on trend yet sleek, with fitted bodycon mini skirts and layers of fringing.  Agis also designed some of the dresses with textured gold and bronze patterns, helping to maintain that edgy feel. All of the looks were twinned with monochrome ankle strap heeled sandals which has been a massive trend over the last year, and looks set to continue through the coming seasons…

Pam Hogg – all at BassBuds were excited to see what Pam Hogg had in store, especially as her AW13 show saw dancers from the English National Ballet wearing PVC and sheer mesh clothing – we knew this one would be a talking point for all fashion followers! And we weren’t disappointed, she used her signature latex body suits with veils and pleats, and following a trend from her AW13 show she again incorporated the ballet dancers. I don’t think we can wait until next year when the clothes will be available to buy….
