BassBuds Backstage At The MOBO Awards

BassBuds | October 24, 2013

Whether you had tickets to The MOBO Awards, or watched the action live from your TV screens last weekend, I’m sure you can agree that it was an incredible show to celebrate their 18th Anniversary.  With performances from Iggy Azelea, Tinie Tempah and So Solid Crew, it was truly a spectacle to remember.  We had great pleasure of having backstage access, where we met some of the performers and nominees – and also had the most amazing front row tickets to top it off.

There were a few familiar BassBuds supporters who we were totally happy to see again such as, the ab fab Stooshe girls, the wonderous So Solid and their leading lady, Lisa Maffia. We had both our Classic and Fashion collections on show including BassBoomz in every different colour for the artists to try out.  Music industry giants met some of the faces behind the brand, and were very impressed with the product – even taking some home for themselves!

The gorgeous girls from Stooshe have been BassBuds fans for a while now, but it was great to catch-up with them again backstage before the show.

We had a chat with Fuse ODG who won the Best African Artist Award and performed two of his hits in the live show – his bright African print top went perfectly with our colourful Buds!

It was also great to catch up with the talented Sam Smith, who was up for the Best Newcomer Award.

So Solid Crew’s closing performance was the talk of the night, and we were lucky enough to experience the atmosphere to the memorable reunion.  We also met each of them backstage beforehand, including sweet hearts, Harvey and Romeo.

During sound check, Aluna from Alunageorge popped in to see BassBuds and then later went on to perform hit single Attracting Flies.  We were singing along in the audience!

Fresh from the red carpet, Leanne Jarvis from The Voice’s ‘Team Will’ met with the BassBuds team and fell head-over-heels for our Candy pink BassBuds.

Rudimental brought down the house during their MOBO performance, and then went on to win Best Album.  Earlier in the day, they came to see us and picked out their favourite BassBuds – but it was a tough choice!

We also met the guys from Diversity who loved testing out the BassBuds sound quality.  Ike Ezekwugo tweeted his approval:  ‘Our very own @IkeTheKidd wearing his new @BassBuds in ear headphones!!’.

We are pleased to say we have brought a bit of the MOBOs back with us in the form of signed BassBuds boxes from Romeo, Stooshe, Diversity and Fuse.

The MOBO Awards launched back in 1996 with legendary artists including Tupac, Goldie and Seal, and it has been going strong ever since;  this year marks their 18th Anniversary – and we can’t wait!  In just a few days time, we will be making the trip up to Glasgow to enjoy the event backstage with the performing acts.

BassBuds will be bringing its signature style and sound to the proceedings; being the must-have luxury in-ear headphones, featuring embedded Swarovski® elements and available in the largest colour range in the world, BassBuds are the perfect accessory for all music lovers.  We have a strong celebrity following, with fans including MOBO’s pioneer Dizzee Rascal and this year’s MOBO guest Jahmene Douglas – who is already a fan of BassBuds unique sound, sporting his own headphones!

This year’s show has a star studded line-up, including female lyricist Iggy Azalea  and Tinie Tempah, who exploded straight into superstardom since the release of his first album Disc-Overy, plus many more!

Paris Fashion Week SS14 – The Highlights

Fashion | October 7, 2013

Designers took Paris by storm last week as they presented their SS14 Ready-to-wear collections. We were overwhelmed with hot summer prints, a contrast of delicate and structured silhouettes, pastel tones and luxurious fabrics. I have managed to pick out my favourite collections, despite there being so many to chose from – for me, it was 9 whole days of pure indulgence.

Day One commenced with shows from Julien David and Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello. Vaccarello presented a range of stylised bodycon silhouettes with plenty of fluidity and edge. He gave us stylish separates infused with drama and gothic lace, with hardware brass buttons used as embellishment, which toughened up the look.  They say opposites attract; Vaccarello’s contrast of drape and structure, elegant and edgy, works perfectly in this collection.

I can’t imagine many women that wouldn’t have been excited to see Guy Laroche’s collection. Elegant and feminine, Laroche mixed gorgeous pastel pinks, smokey greys and bright whites with embellished detail for a glamorous yet sophisticated look. You’ve got to agree ladies; you’d feel a million dollars in one of these dresses!

One of my all-time favourites, Gareth Pugh, showcased yet another unique collection, keeping with his eccentric signature style that we have come to know and love. Pugh’s collection teamed PVC and leather mixes with softer wools and silks to produce some truly elegant, yet feminine looks. The Angular shoulders, cinched waists and oversized elements look robotic and a little unconventional, giving this collection the real space age feel.

Who’d have thought that a collection made up entirely of metallic fabrics and resembling the ‘bin bag’ style could look so elegant and beautiful – enter Lanvin! The Jewelled colours worked perfectly against the metallic fabric and lux drapes. Shimmery silk tweeds and head to toe embellishment shouldn’t work, especially as daytime wear, but the collection featured a fabulous range of wool coats, jackets and dresses to suit any occasion.

With her debut H&M collection being revealed just last week (due to be in stores in November), it’s no wonder that many were excited to see Marant’s SS14 collection. Painterly floral prints and ruffles were teamed with cute miniskirts, summery dresses and touches of embellishment for this ultimate feminine collection. Pretty pink pastels and lace separates were teamed with contrasting boyish jackets with a hint of sex appeal, a classic look for Marant. I’d describe her collection as rough and ready rock chick, with a twist of baby spice; of course.

Cast your mind back to your childhood and imagine looking at a real life fairy-tale on the catwalk; Vivienne Westwood’s SS14 ready-to-wear collection is exactly this.  A mash up of colourful and quirky clashing prints, fabrics and textures inspired by fairy-tale glamour. I love the variety of characters that inspire each look; they are childish and playful but still manage to look very on trend. Each look tells a story and Westwood has still managed to add in her signature style – this is definitely not your average fairy-tale.

Making something out of nothing, thats what designers do best and Kenzo’s SS14 collection is a great example Focusing on the classic ‘Under the Sea’ Theme, the collection is made up of ripple shaped hemlines, layers and vibrant prints in classic shades of cobalt blue, sunshine yellow and white. I’d say the collection is slightly tame compared to some of Kenzo’s previous collections but still heavily relies on abstract and vibrant prints that look heavily influenced by a crayon or two.

Paris certainly saved the best till last with the closing days delivering an array of stunning collections, capturing the historical theme perfectly. The best came from Valentino and Alexander McQueen (in my opinion). Alexander McQueen’s collection was definitely designed for powerful women, but contained sultry delicate tones to add a feminine edge. The collection looks to me like it was heavily inspired by the Roman era, with leather buckles and breast plated style tops, gridded gold straps and Mondrian style block print in luscious bright reds and jet black. Models were dressed with military caps and chunky buckled heels for the ultimate warrior goddess style. Valentino’s collection was far more elegant, the prints both bold and beautiful but not overpowering. Inline with the historical theme, Valentino appear to have used old tapestries and stained glass windows as the inspiration for the collection but had given each piece a modern look with jewelled colours and a variety of styled maxi dresses.

Hermes’ SS14 Ready-to-wear collection has given us all Jungle Fever

Fashion | October 7, 2013

Designer label Hermes caught our attention during Paris Fashion Week recently, the French brand best known for its luxury leather handbags (OR it’s ultra urban alternative chain of fake ‘Homies’ slogan garms’ worn by the likes of Cara Delevigne) are coveted by many celebrities, including Rita Ora and Francesca Sanford, seen here with the famous Birkin bag.

The SS14 Ready-to-wear collection has given us all jungle fever, featuring heavily printed and oversized plant motifs in a palette of forest green and pale orange. Classic tailored shapes were updated with an urban street vibe in this collection, highlighted by loose, drop-waist maxi dresses with short turtleneck collars and body contouring jumpsuits with chunky leather statement belts. Is the designer playing up to its ‘Homies’ copycats with this new street edge?

Style Birmingham Live

Last weekend saw a stir in the city that has more canals than Venice, more trees than Paris, and more cars per square mile than London… BIRMINGHAM. The city was full of glamorous ladies and gents, who took to the streets to enjoy a day of fashion and music – it was time for Style Birmingham Live.

Hosted by premium brand retailer Harvey Nichols, the day kicked off early in the fabulous Mailbox, where a red carpet awaited guests in a Hollywood themed plaza. After taking pics on the red carpet, we were given Chocolate Baileys and VIP goody bags full of some fantastic treats.

Amongst an array of stunning products, BassBuds’ Limited Edition 24 Carat Gold headphones, took prime position in Harvey Nichols. Before you ask, these 24 Carat gold BassBuds CANNOT be purchased anywhere, but don’t start panicking yet; you can win yourself a pair in one of our exclusive competitions. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram to make sure you don’t miss out.

As soon as we entered the Virgin VIP lounge in the newly refurbished town hall, we were greeted with champagne and passion fruit filled chocolates, no complaints from us! DJ Mikey B was on the decks, pumping out the latest tracks and setting the mood for the upcoming show and we couldn’t help but start chatting to him about his speakers and our BassBoomz portable Bluetooth speaker. He was amazed that the portable Bluetooth speaker had such loud and clear sound; it’s true what we say – BassBoomz are small is size and big in sound!

We were craving our fashion fix by the time we took to our seats; ready to check out the latest trends, styles and colours. The fashion show was hosted by Celeb Big Brother winner Rylan Clark and TV presenter Emma Willis, both proud owners of their very own BassBuds and BassBoomz.

The Catwalk was alive with a variety of different collections from Electric City, British Urban and Pink Palette to Galvanise, Futuristic Punk and Retrograde Romance. Fresh from winning Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, Lauren Lambert, wowed the catwalk in the British Urban collection, wearing purple plaid.

After the show, singer and TV fashion guru Brix Smith-Start took to the stage to answer fashion questions from the audience, Jasmine from the BassBuds Team managed to grab a few minutes of her time to meet and ask her a few questions about the competitive and fast moving fashion industry.

As the sun started setting, the show continued with celebrity appearances and catwalks on the lower mall of the Bullring for “Ten; a celebratory event” to celebrate the Bullring’s 10th birthday. The show was hosted by Mollie King from The Saturdays, as thousands watched from all levels of the mall. As with any big birthday bash, there was a spectacular end to a fashion filled day, with The Saturdays performing live with brightly coloured confetti falling from the glass ceiling. A fitting way to end a great day, in Your Colour, Your Style.
