What We Are Listening To This Week

Music | May 21, 2014

It’s time for this week’s music round up and we have all the hottest new songs and videos for you to enjoy on a warm Wednesday afternoon. Have a look at this week’s selection below.

1. 5 Seconds of Summer – ‘Don’t Stop’

5 Seconds Of Summer have unveiled their super hero styled video for their single ‘Don’t Stop.’ The foursome’s second official single is a catchy pop song that takes influence from bands like Busted and McFly. In the video, the boys all take up a super hero persona and go out to fight crime! ‘Don’t Stop’ is out on June 15th and will be followed by their debut album on June 30th.

2. Arcade Fire ‘We Exist’

Arcade Fire have released ‘We Exist’ – the latest single from their number one album ‘Reflector.’  The mid tempo indie rock track is about a gay son coming out to his father, according to front man Win Butler. The video stars Andrew Garfield and depicts the struggle of identity. Dealing with a very topical issue, the video is emotive and perfectly accompanies the track. ‘We Exist’ will be released on May 26th.

3. Nicki Minaj – ‘Pills And Potions’

It’s been two years since Nicki Minaj released her last album and after a long wait fans can finally hear the lead single ‘Pills And Potions’ from her third record. This track is quite mellow, particularly when compared to her former singles that shot her to stardom, such as ‘Superbass’ and ‘Starships.’ The song feels far more personal than her previous work as she deals with an issue that everyone can relate to – heartbreak. Nicki worked with producer Dr. Luke who has also worked with the likes of Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears. ‘Pills And Potions’ will be released on May 21st and Nicki’s album ‘The Pink Print’ is due out later this year.

4. Pitbull featuring Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte – ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’

In an unusual move by FIFA, Pitbull was chosen for the Brazil 2014 World Cup official song ‘We Are One (Ole Ola).’ The American rapper was clearly inspired by Brazil’s carnival culture in both the music and the video. Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian pop star Claudia also have short verses on the song and their vocal talents are under used. Overall the track has had a negative reception from fans who feel the song should have been done by a Brazilian artist. ‘We Are One (Ole Ola) is out now and the FIFA World Cup begins on June 12.

We’re back with this weeks hottest tracks for you to enjoy. There’s an eclectic mix of styles this week with rap, pop and dance tracks all appearing. Listen to all the latest tunes below.

1. Nero – ‘Satisfy’

Electronic trio Nero have unveiled their new track ‘Satisfy’ which will serve as the lead single for their second album. The Grammy award winning group saw success with their debut album ‘Welcome Reality’ in 2011 but have since kept a relatively low profile. This loud and menacing single puts them firmly back in the spot light with big beats and evocative vocals. ‘Satisfy’ is available on iTunes now.

2. Eminem – ‘Headlights’

It is well known that Eminem did not have the easiest of relationships with his mother, but in his new single ‘Headlights’ he comes clean about his feelings. This heartfelt track comes with an equally reflective video, which is nearly all shot from the perspective of his mother. ‘Headlights’ is out now and you can catch Eminem live at Wembley Stadium on the 11th and 12 of July.

3. Damon Albarn – ‘Mr Tembo’

Former Blur front man Damon Albarn has returned to his east-end roots in his latest single ‘Mr Tembo.’ The Brit-pop icon wrote the track while he was out in Africa and the lyrics are based on Damon’s experiences there. In the video Damon goes back to his beginnings by performing in a church in Leytonstone where he grew up. ‘Mr Tembo’ is available now as is Damon’s debut solo album ‘Everyday Robots.’

4. Demi Lovato – ‘Really Don’t Care’

American songstress Demi Lovato has revealed the lyric video for her forthcoming single ‘Really Don’t Care.’ The track will be the fourth release from her album ‘Demi’ and also features a verse from Cher Lloyd. In the video Demi’s fans sing the track and then receive a massive surprise as their idol joins them. ‘Really Don’t Care’ is due for release on May 20th.

5. La Roux – ‘Let Me Down Gently’

It’s been five years since La Roux made her debut, and in a surprising move she has returned to music with her new single ‘Let Me Down Gently.’  The title of the track is quite apt, as the song does lack the punch of her former releases. La Roux’s overall sound is still very similar as she continues to rely on synths and her distinct vocals. ‘Let Me Down Gently’ is available to stream online now and La Roux’s album ‘Trouble In Paradise’ will be released on July 7th.

Rough Copy – ‘Street Love’

Music | May 12, 2014

HOT OFF THE PRESS!  The Rough Copy boys have unveiled the video for their debut single ‘Street Love’ – playing with their “sweet but street” image.

The track has an old school vibe to it, as it features a sample of the 80’s classic ‘Sweet Love’ by Anita Baker. Rough Copy have certainly succeeded in making the sample their own, with their distinct voices and the help of producer Beatfreakz, who has previously worked with Usher and Jason Derulo.

In the video for ‘Street Love’ the boys can be seen vying for the attention of a beautiful young girl, only for her to reject all three. We are sure this wouldn’t happen in real life!

The group finished fourth in the 2013 season of X Factor and have since signed to Epic Records. The guys are now working on their debut album which is expected to be released later this year. The single is out on June 29th and you can check out the video for ‘Street Love’ below.
