Music | June 12, 2014

We are back with a new music roundup and this week there’s a real mixture of styles. Lethal Bizzle, Psy and The Vamps all appear and you can listen to their latest offerings below.

1. Lana Del Rey – Brooklyn Baby

Fans are desperate to hear tracks from Lana Del Rey’s upcoming album ‘Ultraviolence’ and their wish has come true, as the song ‘Brooklyn Baby’ is now streaming online. The song is typically Lana, with her reminiscing about the 70’s and crooning about her boyfriend. It’s a very mellow track with Jazz undertones and melodic guitar. Lana Del Rey’s new record ‘Ultraviolence’ will be released on June 16th and she will be performing at Glastonbury Festival on June 28th.

2. Psy featuring Snoop Dog – Hangover

It was always going to be difficult for Psy to top his smash hit ‘Gangnam Style,’ and he hasn’t managed it with his latest offering ‘Hangover.’ The South Korean star has teamed up with rap icon Snoop Dog for this song which is all about the side effects of drinking too much. What made ‘Gangnam Style’ so iconic was it’s entertaining video and dance routine, however, the video for ‘Hangover’ is underwhelming and unamusing. ‘Hangover’ is out now and Psy is reportedly preparing another big release for summer.

3. Nicole Sherzinger – Your Love

Former X Factor judge Nicole Sherzinger has returned to music and has unveiled her latest single ‘Your Love.’ The track is combination of pop and dance which is overlaid with erotic lyrics. The sexual theme to the song continues into the video that sees Nicole frolicking on a golden beach in several barely-there outfits. The song’s infectious chorus and summery vibe make it sure to be a success in the charts. ‘Your Love’ is out now and Nicole’s second studio album is expected to be released this year.

4. The Vamps ft Demi Lovato – Somebody To You

Britsh boy band The Vamps have partnered with their tour mate Demi Lovato for their latest single ‘Somebody To You.’ The upbeat track is fairly generic pop and it’s Demi’s verse that lifts the song with her cheerful vocals. The video unfortunately feels like a knock off from One Direction’s ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ with its beach setting and pretty girls pouting for the cameras. ‘Somebody To You’ is out now and the boys will be going on their first headline tour in September.

5. Lethal Bizzle ft. Cherri Voncelle – The Drop

Grime artist Lethal Bizzle is back in the charts this week with his single ‘The Drop’ which features singer Cherri Voncelle. Dutch producer Distortion is behind the tracks beat and singer/songwriter Cherri boosts the song with her catchy hook. ‘The Drop’ is out now and Lethal Bizzle is currently planning on releasing an album later this year.

Music Roundup

Music | June 4, 2014

It’s time for another music roundup, and this week it’s all about the ladies! The likes of Cheryl Cole, Ariana Grande and Ella Eyre are all singing their way through our chart.

1. Cheryl Cole ft Tinie Tempah – Crazy Stupid Love

It has been two years since Cheryl Cole’s last single, and now she is back – and in ‘Crazy Stupid Love.’ Her latest offering is very pop orientated and features a catchy trumpet section. ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ is due for release on July 20th and will be followed by her fourth studio album in November.  Of course, she’ll be back on our TV screens soon too, with the start of this year’s X Factor – you’ve been missed Chezza!

2. Ariana Grande ft Iggy Azalea – Problem

Former Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande has revealed the video for her latest single ‘Problem,’ which also features rapper Iggy Azalea. The song is the lead single from Ariana’s upcoming second album and is an energetic pop track that stands out thanks to her Mariah Carey like vocals. The video has a 1960’s vibe, with an iconic monochrome staircase and styling, with retro Twiggy-esque hair and make-up.  The tune is brought right up to date with break dancers and featured rap verses. ‘Problem’ will be out on July 6th, while her album is expected to come out later this year.

3. The Ting Tings – Wrong Club

After a disappointing second album, The Ting Tings have returned with their new single ‘Wrong Club.’ The track is heavily influenced by disco and has a funky bass line which carries the song. It is a different direction from their previous material but it suits the duo. ‘Wrong Club’ is set to be released on July 28th and their third album is rumored to be released in the autumn.

4. Ella Eyre – If I Go

After exploding into the mainstream with Rudimental, Ella Eyre has unveiled her debut single ‘If I Go.’ The song was produced by Jarred Rogers who has previously worked with the likes of Lana Del Rey and Tinie Tempah. This ballad packs a punch and also perfectly displays Ella’s vocal abilities. It also has an entrancing video which is shot all in one room that revolves – it’s a bit tricky to get your head around but it looks great!  ‘If I Go’ will be released on July 13 and you can see Ella perform over the summer at Glastonbury and V Festival.

5. Justin Bieber feat Migos – Looking For You

Forever in the headlines and sparking never ending controversy, Justin Bieber is taking it back to the music and has released a new track called ‘Looking for You,’ as a preview of what his next album will sound like. The song sees Bieber collaborate with Atlanta based group Migos and is certainly more of a move towards the hip hop scene. Justin talks about trying to find the right girl on a night out – and we are sure that every girl will be wishing to be that one! The track is available to listen to online and there is currently no set release date for Beiber’s new material.
